Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is an immune system disease. A person who has this disease has a reaction to foods that contain gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye and barley). The gluten triggers an immune system response. The body attacks and damages the small intestine (or bowel). This can cause problems with the absorption of nutrients during digestion.
